The color
Rift Cut White Oak Thorn is a dark wood stain on rift cut white oak, finished in satin. Rift cutting keeps the grain straight and linear, so the color reads as a deep, even brown with fine vertical lines.
In north light it settles cool and dark, and the grain recedes. South light warms it and brings out the lines. Under warm LEDs it deepens toward chocolate and the satin sheen softens.
What to pair it with
Keep counters light and honed: white marble, pale quartzite, or soft limestone. Against that much depth, polished stone can look glassy.
Unlacquered brass will warm as it ages. Blackened steel and aged bronze stay low and tonal. For floors, try pale natural oak or honed stone, and avoid red-leaning woods.
Where it works
It suits prewar apartments with limited daylight, where a dark kitchen can feel intentional. It also fits brownstone parlor floors and Long Island homes that need a counterweight to white walls and big windows.
Choose a door to set the tone. Bond is a slab, Prospect is beaded, and Gramercy Bevel, Gramercy, Union and Lenox carry applied molding. Browse door styles, see the full TKG Inset collection, or compare other finishes.
Care and durability
A stain lets the wood show, so treat it as wood. Wipe spills promptly with a soft damp cloth, then dry. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh cleaners, which can dull the satin sheen.
Keep standing water away from edges and the base of the sink cabinet. Over time the finish may show slight variation in tone, as natural oak does. For samples or questions, contact us.
