The color in three kinds of light

Shadow is a dark wood laminate with a matte face and a fine, low-contrast grain. It reads as deep brown, not black, with a warm umber undertone.

In north light, the brown cools and settles toward espresso, and the grain nearly disappears. In south light, the undertone opens up and the grain becomes visible. Under warm LEDs, around 2700K, it moves toward chocolate, and the matte surface absorbs glare rather than returning it.

What to pair it with

Counters: honed white marble or pale limestone for contrast. Skip high-gloss slabs, which feel disconnected against a matte face. Metals: unlacquered brass or brushed bronze for warmth, brushed nickel if you want it cooler. Floors: wide-plank white oak in a natural finish, or pale stone tile.

It comes on Wooster Slab, Wooster Shaker and Wooster Slim within TKG Inset. Compare profiles in door styles and see the rest of the palette under finishes.

Where it suits

Prewar galley kitchens in Manhattan and Brooklyn benefit from it on a single tall run, with lighter walls opposite. In brownstones and in open-plan Long Island colonials or split-levels, it grounds an island or a full back wall.

Care and durability

Laminate is a non-porous surface that wipes clean with a damp microfiber cloth and mild soap. Avoid abrasive pads, which dull a matte face. Dry spills near edges, and keep door faces clear of direct oven heat and kettle steam. Questions about a specific kitchen? Talk to us.
