The color in three kinds of light
Walnut Wheat is a satin stain on Walnut: dark brown, with a honey-gold undertone and open grain.
In north light it runs cooler and deeper, and the grain settles into the background. In south light the amber comes forward and the grain opens up. Under warm LEDs, around 2700K to 3000K, it moves toward a richer red-brown that suits evening kitchens.
What to pair it with
Honed white quartzite or pale limestone keeps the dark wood from feeling heavy. Cream soapstone suits a quieter room.
Unlacquered brass picks up the gold undertone. Blackened steel and satin nickel both give a cleaner, more graphic edge.
For floors, try wide-plank white oak in a natural tone, or a pale honed stone.
Where it works
In a brownstone or prewar co-op, the beaded Cold Spring and raised-panel Carnegie doors suit the proportions. Bond and Perry Metal, both slab, bring the stain into lofts and newer Long Island builds. Cold Spring II and Columbus fill out the range. See every option in door styles or the full TKG Inset collection.
Care and durability
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry right away. Skip abrasive pads and harsh cleaners, which can dull a satin sheen. Because this is a stain, grain and tone vary from door to door, and that variation is part of the finish. Compare it with others on the finishes page, or contact us for a sample.
