The color
Cherry Cognac is a dark wood stain with a red-brown core, applied to cherry so the grain stays visible. The satin sheen softens reflections instead of mirroring the room.
In north light it settles deeper and cooler, closer to chocolate with a red edge. South light pulls the red forward and opens up the grain. Under warm LEDs it turns amber and reads richer, so check a sample in the evening before you decide.
What to pair it with
Honed white marble or a soft-veined quartzite keeps the dark wood from feeling heavy. Pale limestone works as well.
For metals, choose unlacquered brass, aged bronze or blackened steel. Wide-plank white oak in a natural or bleached tone makes a clean floor. So does honed gray stone. Avoid floors with strong red tones, which compete with the stain.
Where it suits
It sits comfortably in prewar apartments and brownstones, beside plaster moldings and original trim. It also suits traditional Long Island homes with formal rooms and generous proportions.
Beekman, Columbus and Chelsea lean traditional. Vanderbilt, Perry and Crosby, all slab, give the same color a quieter, modern reading. Browse the full TKG Inset collection or compare door styles.
Care and durability
Wipe spills promptly with a soft, damp cloth and dry the surface. Skip abrasive and ammonia-based cleaners. Keep standing water away from the sink and dishwasher edges.
This is real wood, so grain varies from door to door. Cherry also deepens gradually with light exposure. See more finishes or contact us for a sample.
