The color in three lights

This is a medium wood with a warm, reddish-brown undertone and a satin sheen. The grain runs in long ribbons that catch the light differently as you move past the doors.

In north light, the brown cools and the stripes soften. South light pulls out the red and gold, and the figure becomes more pronounced. Under warm LEDs the whole run deepens and glows. Choose 2700K for that effect, or 3000K for a slightly cleaner read.

What to pair it with

Honed white marble or a pale quartzite gives the wood room to be the focus. Soapstone makes a darker, more tailored kitchen.

Unlacquered brass and aged bronze extend the warmth. Brushed stainless keeps things crisp. Pale white oak floors or gray-veined stone tile balance the red undertone better than another medium-brown floor would.

Where it suits

Ribbon Sapele works well in prewar apartments, where it adds depth against plaster walls and original trim. It also suits brownstone kitchens and Long Island colonials and open-plan ranches, where one long wall of wood can anchor the room.

It is available on most door styles, so browse door styles and the TKG Inset collection, or see more finishes.

Care and durability

Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry right away. Avoid standing water, abrasive pads and harsh cleaners. Keep steam from the dishwasher and kettle away from door edges.
