The color
Barnwood is a medium wood tone with a matte, low-glare surface. In north light, common in brownstone and prewar apartments, it cools slightly and settles into a quiet, even brown. In south light, the amber undertone comes forward and the grain reads warmer.
Under warm LEDs at 2700K, it deepens toward honey. At 3000K it stays more neutral. Test it under the bulbs you plan to use.
What to pair it with
Choose honed white marble or a warm-white quartz for counters. Black honed granite gives a sharper contrast. Unlacquered brass and blackened steel suit the tone well, while brushed nickel keeps things cooler.
For floors, pale white oak in a natural finish or gray limestone tile both work. Avoid a floor close to the cabinet tone, so one surface stays clearly lighter or darker. Plaster-white walls let the wood carry the room.
Where it works
It suits prewar co-ops, Brooklyn townhouses, Long Island colonials and ranches, and Miami condos with strong sun. On the Lispenard Frame shaker door it feels traditional. On the Lispenard Slab it reads leaner and more modern. Explore the full TKG Inset collection or compare door styles.
Care and durability
Laminate is nonporous and resists stains, and the matte surface hides fingerprints well. Wipe with a damp microfiber cloth and mild soap, then dry. Skip abrasive pads and steam cleaners.
Keep standing water away from edges near the sink and dishwasher. Use trivets near ranges and toasters. See more finishes or contact us for samples.
