The color

Alder Storm is a dark wood stain in a satin sheen, applied to alder. The grain stays visible, so the tone reads as wood, not paint: a smoky brown with a cool gray undertone.

In north light it leans toward charcoal. In south light it warms and the grain opens up. Under warm LEDs it deepens toward espresso, so check a door under your actual bulbs.

What to pair it with

Honed white marble or a pale quartzite gives dark doors room to breathe. Soapstone keeps the room moody.

Unlacquered brass or aged bronze suits the hardware and faucet. Blackened steel is the quieter choice.

For floors, natural white oak in a wide plank is the easy match. Skip red-toned floors, which fight the gray undertone.

Where it suits

Brownstone and prewar kitchens in Brooklyn and Manhattan carry dark cabinetry well. On Long Island, it suits colonials and shingle-style houses that want a grounded kitchen.

It comes on Remsen and Clinton Wide (shaker), Columbus and Union (applied-molding), and Chelsea and Henry Street (beaded), all part of the TKG Inset collection. Compare profiles in door styles.

Care and durability

Wipe with a soft damp cloth and dry right away. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh cleaners. Wipe up water near the sink and range promptly.

Stain lets the wood show, so expect natural variation from door to door. See more finishes, or contact us for a sample.
