The color
A deep brown-black stain on hard maple, finished in satin. Maple's tight grain stays visible as fine, quiet lines, and the stain lets them show instead of covering them.
In north light it reads cool, close to espresso, nearly charcoal in the shadows. South light pulls it toward dark chocolate and shows more grain. Under warm LEDs the brown comes forward and the satin surface holds a soft glow. Expect it to look richer at night than at noon.
What to pair it with
Honed white marble or pale quartzite gives the strongest contrast. Soapstone keeps the room moody and low in contrast.
For metals, unlacquered brass and aged bronze deepen the warmth. Polished nickel keeps it crisp. On the floor, choose natural or bleached white oak. Avoid anything equally dark, which flattens the cabinetry.
Browse door styles for the full range. Clinton and Clinton Wide are shaker, Perry Wide and Perry Metal are slab, and Carroll and Astor are raised-panel. See more in TKG Inset and our other finishes.
Where it works
In prewar co-ops and brownstones, Carroll or Astor in this stain feels grounded and architectural. In lofts and newer condos, the Perry slab doors keep it lean. On Long Island, Clinton suits colonials and open-plan renovations where a dark wood run anchors a lighter room.
Care and durability
Hard Maple Black Coffee is a stain, so the wood remains part of the surface. Wipe with a soft damp cloth, then dry. Use mild soap only, and skip abrasive pads and harsh cleaners. Dry spots near the sink and dishwasher promptly.
Dark satin shows dust and fingerprints more readily, so a quick wipe keeps it even. To see it in your light, contact us for a sample.
