The color
Walnut Umber is a dark wood stain with a satin sheen, applied to walnut so the grain stays in view. In north light it reads as a cool, deep brown. South light pulls the red out of the umber and warms the whole run. Under warm LEDs it settles toward chocolate, so look at a sample after dark before you commit.
What to pair it with
Honed Carrara or soapstone counters let the wood be the darkest thing in the room. Unlacquered brass will warm and soften against it, while blackened steel gives a sharper edge. For floors, wide-plank white oak in a natural finish keeps the contrast clear. Honed limestone does the same in a cooler key.
Where it works
Prewar apartments and brownstones can carry a dark kitchen well, especially where trim and ceiling height give the wood room. On Long Island, it suits shingled houses and modern builds alike. It is offered across TKG Inset on doors including Bridgehampton, Amagansett, Crosby, Orchard, Lenox and Riverside. Compare profiles on the door styles page.
Care and durability
This is a stain on real wood, so grain and tone will vary from door to door. That is the point of it. Wipe with a soft damp cloth and dry right away. Skip abrasive cleaners, and clear spills near the sink and range promptly. The satin sheen is forgiving of daily handling. For samples or questions, get in touch.
