The color in three kinds of light

Quartered Red Gum is a medium wood with a reddish-brown undertone and a fine, straight grain. The quartered cut keeps the figure orderly, so a run of doors reads as a calm vertical stripe.

In north light the red settles back and the tone leans toward a quiet brown. South light warms it, bringing rose and amber out of the grain. Under warm LEDs the color deepens and the satin sheen glows softly instead of glaring.

What to pair it with

For counters, try honed white marble or a soft white quartzite. Dark soapstone gives a stronger contrast. Unlacquered brass and aged bronze suit the red undertone, and blackened steel keeps things grounded. Polished chrome tends to feel cold beside it.

For floors, go either lighter or distinctly cooler. A matte white oak or a gray-toned limestone lets the cabinetry stand apart. Avoid floors close to its own red.

Where it suits in New York and Long Island

Inset doors already belong in prewar co-ops and brownstones, and this finish gives those rooms warmth without darkening them. It also works in Long Island colonials and mid-century ranches, and in north-facing apartment kitchens that need some color.

It comes on most door styles in TKG Inset. See the full range under door styles.

Care and durability

This is a real wood veneer with a satin finish. Wipe with a soft damp cloth, dry right away, and use mild soap only. Skip abrasive pads and ammonia cleaners.

Keep standing water off door edges near the sink and dishwasher. Like any natural wood, it shifts gradually with light exposure. Compare it with our other finishes, or contact us for a sample.
