The color
Red Oak Auburn is a medium wood stain with a reddish-brown core. The oak grain stays open and visible, so it reads as wood rather than paint, darker in the pores and warmer on the flat.
In north light, the brown settles and cools. In south light, the red moves toward copper. Under warm LEDs, the tone deepens and the grain lines sharpen.
What to pair it with
Honed white marble or a soft cream quartzite gives clean contrast. Dark soapstone makes a heavier, more settled room.
Unlacquered brass and aged bronze pick up the red in the stain. Blackened steel keeps it crisp.
For floors, choose pale white oak with a matte finish, or a gray-toned limestone. Avoid mid-tone red woods that compete with the cabinetry.
Where it fits
It suits prewar apartments, brownstone kitchens, and Long Island colonials and Tudors, where wood belongs in the room. Slab doors such as Crosby, Varick, and Gowanus keep it modern. Raised-panel doors such as Fifth Avenue, Irving, and Riverside lean traditional. Browse the full range in TKG Inset or compare profiles under door styles.
Care and durability
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry right away. Mild soap is enough. Skip abrasive pads and ammonia-based sprays.
Clean up standing water near the sink and dishwasher promptly. Satin shows fewer fingerprints than gloss.
Because this is a stain, color varies naturally from board to board. See it in person through finishes, or contact us for a sample.
