The color

Cherry Chestnut is a satin stain on cherry, a medium wood tone with a red-brown core. The stain deepens the grain instead of covering it, so each door carries its own subtle variation.

In north light, the red settles back and the tone reads as a quieter, cooler brown. In south light, amber and copper come forward and the wood looks warmer. Under warm LEDs, expect more red. At 2700K it leans rosy, and at 3000K it stays balanced.

What to pair it with

For counters, honed white marble, soapstone, or a gray-veined quartzite give the warm wood something cool to push against.

Unlacquered brass and aged bronze follow the warmth. Blackened steel sharpens it.

On the floor, pale white oak keeps the room light, and honed gray stone steadies the red. Skip floors with a similar red tone, which flatten the cabinetry.

Where it suits

It belongs in prewar apartments, brownstones, and Long Island colonials and Tudors, where trim and millwork already carry some warmth.

Henry Street (beaded) and Fifth Avenue (raised-panel) suit those traditional rooms. Perry Metal (slab) and Clinton Wide (shaker) make the same color feel more restrained. Browse the full TKG Inset collection or compare door styles.

Care and durability

A satin stain finish is easy to live with. Wipe with a soft damp cloth and mild soap, then dry. Avoid abrasive cleaners and standing water near the sink and dishwasher.

Cherry deepens gradually with light exposure, so expect the color to richen over time. See more tones in finishes, or contact us to request a sample.
