How the color reads
Iron is a satin gray with real depth, a charcoal that stays neutral instead of drifting blue or brown. It is painted on Paint Grade Maple, so the surface is opaque and even.
In north light it cools toward graphite. In south light it loosens into slate and shows more of the satin sheen. Under warm LEDs it settles into a soft charcoal with a trace of warmth, never muddy.
What to pair it with
Honed Carrara or a pale quartzite gives the cleanest contrast, while soapstone keeps the room tonal and quiet. Unlacquered brass warms the gray and ages well; brushed nickel keeps it crisp. Wide-plank white oak or pale limestone underfoot balances the weight of the cabinets.
Where it belongs
Brownstone garden levels and prewar co-ops gain a defined edge, and Long Island colonials and open-plan renovations get an island or full run that anchors lighter walls.
Slab doors (Ludlow 1.5, Vanderbilt, Perry) read modern, shaker (Clinton Wide, Remsen Wide) reads quieter, and Astor's raised panel suits a traditional room. Browse door styles or the TKG Inset collection.
Care and durability
Wipe with a soft damp cloth and mild soap, then dry. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh solvents, which can dull a satin sheen. Satin hides fingerprints better than gloss, and small chips can be touched up. See more finishes or contact us.
