The color
A wheat tone, light to mid in depth, stained into alder so the grain stays visible. The undertone is warm and faintly golden, never orange, never gray. The satin sheen catches light without glare.
In north light it settles into muted straw. In south light it warms toward honey. Under warm LEDs at 2700–3000K it deepens slightly toward amber. Hold a sample in your own room, at night, before you decide.
What to pair it with
Honed soapstone or a white quartzite counter lets the wood lead. Unlacquered brass will deepen alongside it, while brushed nickel keeps things cooler and quieter. For floors, matte white oak in a close tone reads as one continuous warmth. Gray limestone or slate tile adds contrast.
Alder Wheat is offered in the TKG Inset collection on Henry Street, Cold Spring, Clinton, Remsen Wide, Carroll and Perry doors. Compare profiles in door styles or see more finishes.
Where it works
Prewar apartments with limited daylight, brownstone kitchens, and Long Island colonials and capes with a kitchen open to the den all suit it. The warmth softens a narrow galley without darkening it. Beaded Henry Street fits an older home. Slab Perry fits a modern loft plan.
Care and durability
A stain keeps the character of the wood, so grain and small tonal shifts vary from door to door. Wipe spills promptly with a soft damp cloth and dry the surface. Avoid abrasive cleaners and standing water near the sink and dishwasher. For samples or questions, contact the studio.
