The color
Alder Driftwood is a light wood stain with a quiet, weathered cast. It is translucent, so the grain stays visible, and the satin sheen keeps the surface soft.
In north light it cools toward a pale gray-tan. In south light the warmth of the wood comes forward, closer to sand. Under warm LEDs it settles into a gentle honeyed beige.
What to pair it with
Honed white quartzite or a pale limestone counter keeps the room calm. Soapstone or a dark honed granite gives it contrast.
Brushed nickel and blackened steel sharpen the gray in the stain. Unlacquered brass warms it. For floors, natural-finish white oak reads as a close cousin, and gray stone or terrazzo adds a cooler edge.
Where it works
Prewar apartments in Manhattan and Brooklyn, where light is limited and a pale wood keeps a narrow kitchen open. Brownstone parlor floors. Long Island coastal and split-level homes, where it sits easily beside whites and soft blues.
It is offered on Clinton, Union, Crosby, Perry, Cold Spring and Perry Wide. See the full door styles and the TKG Inset collection.
Care and durability
A stain lets the wood show, so grain and tone will vary from door to door. That is part of the finish.
Wipe spills promptly with a soft damp cloth and dry the surface. Skip abrasive pads and harsh cleaners. Keep doors away from sustained steam and standing water.
