The color

Hard Maple Driftwood is a light wood stain with a weathered, beach-sand cast: pale tan, a trace of gray, almost no orange. The stain is translucent, so the grain stays visible under a satin sheen.

In north light, the gray undertone comes forward and the wood reads cool and quiet. In south light it warms to a sandy honey. Under warm LEDs it leans toward cream. Check it in your own light before you commit.

What to pair it with

Honed white quartzite or a softly veined warm-white quartz keeps the palette calm. Soapstone gives a darker counterpoint.

For metals, brushed nickel and matte black both suit it. Use aged brass in small doses, such as pulls or a single pendant.

Matte white oak, gray-beige limestone and large-format porcelain make good floors. Avoid strongly orange or red-toned floors, which fight the gray undertone.

Where it works

This finish suits prewar co-op kitchens with a single window, brownstone garden floors, and Long Island colonials and split-levels that need brightness without paint.

It comes on Vanderbilt and Perry (slab), Carroll and Beekman (raised-panel), Union (applied-molding) and Remsen (shaker) doors within TKG Inset. Browse the full range under door styles.

Care and durability

As a stain, it lets the wood's natural grain and tone variation show from door to door. That is part of its character.

Wipe with a soft damp cloth and dry right away. Use mild soap, skip abrasive pads and harsh cleaners, and clear spills quickly near the sink and range. More options are under finishes.
