The color

Rift Cut White Oak Smoke is a satin stain in the light wood family. It sits between pale tan and soft gray, with the straight, quiet grain that rift cutting gives oak.

In north light the gray comes forward and the wood reads cool and calm. In south light it warms toward sand, and the grain lines sharpen. Under warm LEDs it picks up a faint amber. Keep bulbs near 3000K if you want it to stay neutral.

What to pair it with

Honed Carrara or a pale quartzite keeps the palette quiet. Soapstone or a dark honed granite adds contrast.

Brushed stainless and blackened steel suit the gray undertone. Unlacquered brass warms it. For floors, choose wide-plank oak a shade deeper, or a gray limestone. Avoid red-leaning floors, which fight the smoke.

Where it suits

In prewar apartments and brownstones, the beveled Gramercy Bevel and Columbus doors give the finish some architecture. Park Slope and Riverside, both raised-panel, suit a more traditional room.

On Long Island, the beaded Shelter Island and Henry Street doors work well in shingled and farmhouse kitchens. Browse the full TKG Inset collection or compare door styles.

Care and durability

This is a stain on real wood, so the grain shows and no two doors match exactly. Wipe with a soft damp cloth and dry right away. Use mild soap only, and skip abrasive pads. Keep standing water away from the sink and dishwasher edges.

Satin hides fingerprints better than gloss. To see it in person, contact us or view more finishes.
