Color and light
Noir is a satin black paint, close to true black, with no blue or brown cast pulling it off center. The sheen catches light along edges and profiles rather than flattening across the door.
In north light it reads cool and quiet, nearer to soft charcoal. In south light it deepens and shows a low glow along the edges. Under warm LEDs the black softens and takes on a gentle warmth.
What to pair it with
Honed Calacatta, soapstone or a thick limestone slab keeps the contrast deliberate. Unlacquered brass and aged bronze warm the black, while polished nickel sharpens it.
Wide-plank white oak or herringbone oak gives the room a lighter ground. Honed terrazzo keeps it graphic.
It comes on Lispenard Slab for a flat, architectural face and on Lispenard Frame for a shaker profile. See the full TKG Inset collection or compare door styles.
Where it works
Brownstones and prewar apartments, with their tall ceilings and plaster detail, carry black well, especially as one wall of tall cabinets. In a compact co-op galley, use it on the lowers and keep the uppers light.
On Long Island, open plans and large windows suit a black island or a full run. Explore more finishes.
Care and durability
Wipe with a soft damp cloth and mild soap, then dry. Skip abrasive pads and ammonia-based cleaners.
Black shows dust and fingerprints more readily than lighter colors, and satin is more forgiving than gloss. Painted surfaces can chip under hard impact, so ask us about touch-up.
