The color
Marine is a deep blue with gray in the undertone, closer to dark water than to navy ink. The satin sheen keeps the surface quiet, so the color does the work.
In north light it runs cool and inky, nearly navy. In south light it opens up and shows a softer, slightly greener depth. Under warm LEDs it settles darker and rounder, and the gray recedes.
What to pair it with
Honed white marble or a warm white quartzite keeps the contrast clean. Unlacquered brass will warm the blue, while polished nickel keeps it crisp.
For floors, wide-plank white oak in a natural finish works well, as does herringbone oak or checkered limestone. Walls in a warm white keep the cabinetry the focus.
Where it works
It suits north-facing galley kitchens in prewar co-ops, where the cool light deepens it. It also fits brownstone parlor floors and Long Island shingled and Colonial homes.
Beaded doors like Cold Spring and Cold Spring II suit older apartments. Varick's slab front fits lofts, and Fifth Avenue, Morningside and Gramercy carry more detail. Browse the TKG Inset collection or compare door styles.
Care and durability
Wipe with a soft damp cloth and mild soap, then dry. Avoid abrasive pads and solvent cleaners.
Satin hides fingerprints better than gloss, though dark paint shows dust and chips more readily. Painted joints can show fine hairline movement with seasonal humidity, which is normal for painted wood. To see it in person, view all finishes or contact us for a sample.
