The color

Cobalt is a saturated blue with a trace of ultramarine in it. It is deep without being black, and it reads as a color rather than a neutral.

In north light it cools and deepens, settling toward ink in the shadows. In south light it opens up and shows its truest blue, with the satin sheen catching on door edges and moldings. Under warm LEDs (2700K to 3000K) it softens and gains a little depth, losing any hint of chill.

What to pair it with

Honed white marble or a pale quartzite keeps the blue crisp. Soapstone and end-grain butcher block make it feel settled.

For metals, unlacquered brass warms it and aged bronze quiets it. Polished nickel sharpens it. On floors, wide-plank white oak in a natural finish is the easy answer, and limestone or a honed gray stone works as well.

Where it works

In a prewar co-op galley, Cobalt gives a narrow room a clear point of view. In a brownstone or a Long Island colonial, it sits well with existing millwork and plaster.

Slab doors like Hudson and Bleecker suit lofts and newer builds. Sutton, Lenox and Riverside suit older apartments and houses. Remsen Wide brings a shaker profile to family kitchens. Browse the full TKG Inset collection or compare door styles.

Care and durability

This is a painted finish on Paint Grade Maple, a stable, closed-grain wood. Wipe with a soft damp cloth and mild soap, then dry. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh cleaners, and wipe splashes near the range and sink promptly.

Painted inset doors can show hairline seam movement with seasonal humidity, which is normal. See more finishes or contact us for a sample.
