The color

Linen is an off-white with a little sand in it. The satin sheen keeps the surface soft rather than glossy, and the paint is opaque over Paint Grade Maple, so the tight grain stays quiet.

In north light it cools toward a gray-touched putty. In south light it warms to cream without turning yellow. Under warm LEDs it moves a step toward butter. Bulbs between 2700K and 3000K suit it best, and anything cooler will flatten it.

What to pair it with

Honed stone does the most for it. Try soapstone for contrast, or Carrara with a soft gray vein. Unlacquered brass and aged bronze hardware add warmth, while polished nickel keeps things crisp.

On the floor, wide-plank white oak keeps the room light. Walnut herringbone gives it depth. A blackened steel hood makes a clean, dark counterpoint.

Where it works

It suits prewar Manhattan co-ops, Brooklyn brownstones and Long Island colonials or beach houses. Raised-panel Park Slope and Irving doors sit naturally in brownstones. Shelter Island's beaded profile suits shingled houses, and Mercer Wide in slab is a good fit for lofts and newer condos.

Care and durability

Painted satin wipes clean with a soft damp cloth and mild soap. Dry the areas around the sink and dishwasher, and avoid abrasive pads and solvent cleaners.

Painted edges can chip under hard impact, but touch-up is straightforward. See more finishes or contact us for a sample.
