The color

Chalk is a satin white, painted opaque over Paint Grade Maple. It is smooth and even, with a soft sheen rather than a gloss.

In north light it cools and quiets, reading as a gray-leaning white. In south light it warms and brightens, and the sheen catches along door edges. Under warm LEDs it drifts toward cream, so test a sample at the color temperature you plan to install.

What to pair it with

Honed soapstone or honed black granite gives the white a firm edge. White oak butcher block keeps things softer.

For metals, unlacquered brass will age against it, blackened steel draws a fine line, and polished nickel stays cool. On the floor, wide-plank white oak is calm, and gray hex marble adds pattern without crowding the cabinets.

Where it works

The Park Slope raised-panel and Gramercy applied-molding doors suit brownstones and prewar co-ops. Bleecker, Mott, Perry, and Vanderbilt are slab doors, a clean fit for lofts, condos, and Long Island renovations where the kitchen opens to the living room.

Care and durability

Wipe with a soft damp cloth and mild soap, then dry. Skip abrasive pads and harsh cleaners. Dry the areas around the sink and dishwasher promptly.

Painted surfaces can chip under hard impact, but they can be touched up. Contact us for guidance, or compare other finishes.
