Canal in every finish

finish pairings for this door are being set up.

The door itself

Canal is a slab door with a slab center panel, part of the TKG Inset collection: inset, framed, furniture-grade. There are no rails, bevels or routed profiles to collect dust. The surface is one flat plane, and the only detail is the grain.

Rift cut white oak runs straight and tight, with none of the cathedral figure of plain-sawn boards. In a room it reads as quiet and architectural. Run the doors tall and the grain becomes a fine pinstripe. Full overlay is available when you want the frame to recede.

Where it works in New York, Long Island and Miami

In a pre-war apartment, it sits calmly against plaster walls, original casings and herringbone floors. In a brownstone, it gives a parlor-floor kitchen contrast with the ornate millwork next door instead of competing with it.

Lofts suit long, uninterrupted runs under steel windows. In new builds on Long Island and in Miami condominiums, the oak adds warmth to white walls and stone counters without adding clutter.

Choosing a finish

Rift cut oak is the point of this door, so choose a finish that keeps the grain visible. Lighter, natural tones open up a narrow galley or a north-facing room. Deeper tones suit larger, brighter spaces.

An opaque paint would bury the grain, so we steer away from it. See current options on the finishes page, or compare other profiles under door styles.

Practical notes

Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry the surface right away. Use mild soap only, and skip abrasive pads and strong cleaners.

Rift cut grain stays straight and consistent, so neighboring doors read as one continuous run. Hardware should stay quiet: slim bar pulls, edge pulls, finger pulls or push latches, in brushed or blackened metal.

Lead time is 10–14 weeks. Pricing starts from $1200/LF, cabinetry only. To talk through a layout, contact us.
