Shelter Island in every finish
The door
This is a beaded inset door with a flat recessed center panel. A small rounded bead runs along the inside edge of the frame, catching light and leaving a fine shadow line. The panel stays quiet and the bead does the talking.
Set flush within a framed face, the door reads as furniture rather than casework. It is formal enough to carry detail and restrained enough not to fuss. Full overlay is also available if you want the same profile sitting proud of the frame.
Where it works in New York and beyond
Pre-war apartments with plaster walls and original millwork are a natural fit, because the bead echoes existing moldings. So are brownstone parlor floors and garden-level kitchens, where the door can look like it was always part of the house.
On Long Island, it suits shingle-style and colonial houses, including Shelter Island itself. In a new build, it gives a transitional plan some memory. In a loft, a warm wood version softens concrete and steel. In Miami, it works in traditional homes that want detail without heaviness.
Choosing a finish
Ten species are offered, from Paint Grade Maple to Walnut, Cherry, Alder and three cuts of White Oak. Of the 95 finishes, a few stand out here.
- Dove is a clean white that lets the bead read as shadow.
- Sage and Cobalt suit a island or a run of lowers.
- Cherry Chestnut and Cherry Bourbon give traditional rooms depth.
- Rift Cut White Oak Smoke and Moss keep the grain calm and linear.
- Hard Maple Saddle is an easy medium wood tone.

Practical notes
Wipe with a soft damp cloth and dry right away, running a corner of the cloth through the bead. On painted doors, color can read slightly deeper in the profile. That is how a molded edge behaves. Open-grain species like oak show their texture under paint-free finishes, and cherry deepens gradually with light.
For hardware, choose simple knobs, latch pulls or slim bin pulls in aged brass or nickel. Keep the scale modest so the bead stays visible.
Lead time is 10–14 weeks. Pricing starts at $1200/LF, cabinetry only. Browse TKG Inset, compare other door styles, or contact us to see a sample.
